CNC Machining Surface Finishes

Enhance part durability, precision, and appearance with our wide range of professional CNC surface finishes.

As Machined

Description

Parts are delivered directly after CNC machining with visible tool marks, offering the fastest turnaround and accurate dimensions without additional finishing steps.

Advantages

Anodized

Description

Creates a durable, corrosion-resistant oxide layer on aluminum parts, enhancing surface hardness, wear resistance, and decorative appearance for engineering and consumer applications.

Advantages

Polishing

Description

Mechanical polishing improves surface smoothness and reduces roughness, creating a shiny or glossy finish suitable for cosmetic, optical, and high-end consumer products.

Advantages

Sand Blasting

Description

Uses high-pressure abrasive blasting to create a uniform matte texture, removing minor machining marks and preparing the surface for coating or cosmetic upgrades.

Advantages

Powder Coating

Description

A dry powder is electrostatically applied and heat-cured to form a thick, durable coating with excellent impact resistance and strong corrosion protection.

Advantages

Black Oxidize

Description

A chemical conversion coating that forms a dark, mildly corrosion-resistant surface on steel, enhancing appearance and reducing light reflection with minimal dimensional change.

Advantages

Electroplating

Description

Adds a thin metal layer such as nickel, chrome, or zinc to improve corrosion resistance, conductivity, and surface appearance for functional or cosmetic purposes.

Advantages

Bead Blasting

Description

A fine-media blasting process that produces a smooth, satin-matte finish with consistent texture, ideal for aesthetic parts requiring subtle surface refinement.

CNC Machining Design Guidelines

Designing with manufacturability in mind is key to achieving stable quality and optimal machining efficiency.

Features
Description

Part Size

Standard 3-axis mills accommodate 500×400×300mm to 2000×1000×800mm workpieces depending on machine class. Verify specific capacity with manufacturer before finalizing design dimensions.

Tolerance

Standard CNC: ±0.05–0.1mm (metal), ±0.1–0.2mm (plastic). Precision machining: ±0.02–0.05mm with tighter control. Specify tolerances realistically to balance cost and manufacturability.

Features & Geometries

Use fillets ≥0.5mm (preferably ≥1mm) on internal corners. Design ribs at 50–75% adjacent wall thickness. Avoid sharp angles and deep pockets for tool access and reduced stress.

Wall Thickness

Minimum walls: aluminum ≥1.5mm, steel ≥2.0mm, plastics ≥2.0mm. Uniform thickness prevents vibration, deformation, and warping, ensuring dimensional stability and consistent surface finish.

Holes & Threads

Holes ≥1.0mm (metal) or ≥1.5mm (plastic), depth ≤10×diameter. Standard threads M3–M16, depth 1.5–2×nominal diameter. Avoid fine pitches or excessive depth for precision.

Undercuts

Limit undercuts to essential features. T-slots: 3–40mm wide; dovetails: 45–75° angles. Complex undercuts require specialized tooling or EDM, significantly increasing cost and lead time.

CNC Machining FAQs

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining is a subtractive manufacturing process that uses automated, computer-controlled cutting tools to produce metal or plastic parts with high accuracy. At Livepoint, we provide 3-axis milling, CNC turning, grinding, and EDM to support both rapid prototypes and tight-tolerance custom components.

CNC machining offers high precision, repeatability, fast material removal, and the ability to create complex geometries without expensive tooling—making it ideal for both prototyping and production.

However, the process can generate material waste, may require skilled operators for complex programming, and is less cost-effective for very small runs compared with 3D printing or low-tooling processes.

China CNC machining manufacturers provide a unique combination of competitive labor costs, fast production cycles, advanced equipment, and flexible capacity. This allows overseas customers to achieve better pricing, shorter lead times, and reliable quality compared with many local manufacturing markets.

Yes. Livepoint provides detailed DFM feedback covering tolerances, manufacturability, wall thickness, tool access, and potential risks to ensure your parts can be produced accurately and cost-effectively.

CNC machining pricing depends on material type, part complexity, tolerance level, surface finishing, and order volume. Upload your STEP/STP/IGS/STL files, and we will provide a competitive quote—usually within 24 hours.

Livepoint supports 3-axis milling, turning, grinding, and EDM with a machining stroke of 800–3200 mm and tolerances as tight as 0.005–0.01 mm. We work with aluminum, steel, stainless steel, copper alloys, titanium, and a variety of engineering plastics.
